Our Story
John + Travis. A place on Main.
J+T's on the Main opened in Chatham, Virginia, in August 2020, bringing John and Travis's love of good food to Main Street.
Our story has roots in JT's at the Lavalette in Gretna, where John Turner cooked before bringing the restaurant to Chatham. Here, beside the Pittsylvania County courthouse, steaks, seafood, and time around the table remain at the heart of the experience.
The J and T stand for John and Travis. Travis carries the restaurant forward, and the name stays as a tribute to the two people behind it.

In Loving Memory of John Turner
Chef. Musician. Friend. The heart behind J+T's on the Main.
For more than four decades, John Turner dedicated his life to the art of cooking, bringing people together through good food, laughter, and genuine hospitality.
John's passion for the restaurant business led him to establish JT's at the Lavalette in Gretna, Virginia, where he spent more than a decade building a place that became a part of the community. In 2020, he brought that passion to Chatham, Virginia, opening J+T's on the Main alongside Travis and beginning a new chapter in a lifetime devoted to food and hospitality.
But there was much more to John than the kitchen. He was also a musician who loved playing guitar and singing, sharing his creativity and personality through music just as he did through his cooking.
The name J+T's represents John and Travis, a lasting reminder of the people behind the restaurant. Today, as Travis carries the business forward, John's influence remains woven into the very identity of the place they built together.
John leaves behind more than a restaurant. He leaves a legacy of hard work, passion, music, and memories shared with the countless people who crossed his path.
Though he may no longer be here to welcome guests through the doors, his spirit lives on in the restaurant, the people he inspired, and the traditions he helped create.
